Here is a brief, yet thorough, outline of the structure, mechanics, and format of the NEW SAT test.
New SAT total score is 2400 - Lower than 1500 – Below Average
- Around 1500 – Average
- Above 1800 – Above Average
- Above 2100 – Exceptional
3 sections: Critical Reading – 70 minutes total - Two, 25 minute sections
- One, 20 minute section
Math – 70 minutes total - Two, 25 minute sections
- One, 20 minute section
Writing – 60 minutes total - One, 25 minute essay section
- One, 25 minute multiple choice section
- One, 10 minute multiple choice section
10 sections in total - one ‘experimental’ section which does not count toward score Scoring - 1 point for each correct answer
- Lose ¼ of a point for each incorrect answer EXCEPT for Grid-Ins
- No deduction nor gain for omitting a question
- Essay – 2 readers, score 0 – 6, if differ by more than 1 then 3rd reader
Level of difficulty - Questions increase in difficulty from the beginning of the section to the end
- Applies to all Math and Sentence Completion questions
- Loosely applies to Writing and Critical Reading sections
